DJ Afro, also known as José Luis Pardo – the guitarist in Los Amigos Invisibles, has his own hourly radio show where he spins some of his favorite tunes from many different genres. On his website there is an excellent archive of his newest shows available for online listening, just follow the link above and check it out because there is a lot of really good stuff in there, although some of his house mixes are not my cup of tea.

DJ Afro – “Afroshow”

Swingin Cheese – “Croon Tunes and Kitscherama” (1997)
November 25, 2009 - posted in Records, Releases.
If you ever need a collection of high quality easy listening tunes, and yes, they do exist, this album from Irma Records is fine choice indeed. It covers the period from 1966 – 1972 and the track selections are really good, avoiding the drab elevator music arrangements in favour of solid performances and danceable grooves, making it perfect lounge fare for your ears and feet. Unfortunately it seems to be out of print, so you’ll have to track it down on your own which is probably not that hard.

Pat Metheny – Album commentary tracks
November 14, 2009 - posted in Misc, Releases.
Jazz guitarist/composer Pat Metheny has recorded and released what might be called a directors commentary for many of his albums, and it’s interesting stuff to listen to even if you are not a big fan of the genre or his music, because he describes the creative process behind many of the tracks and what inspired their creation and so on. You can find the commentaries on his podcast page (some of them require iTunes), or you can download them all directly from this newsfeed.

Meeting up with Halvor right after he landed in Oslo fresh from his stay in San Francisco with the usual batch of new records under his arm, resulted in this 4 hour long DJ-session with the three of us which is presented here in four parts (no playlist is available for this mix):

Quincy Jones – “Ndeda” (1972)
October 26, 2009 - posted in Albums, Reviews.
This man needs no introduction, his creative legacy speaks for itself, and it puts him in the company of the select few who have changed popular music forever either directly or indirectly, or in his case, both. What is perhaps not so well known is the body of work he created as a jazz arranger, conductor, producer and performer in the 50’s and 60’s, which is what this excellent compilation album is all about.
Los Amigos Invisibles – Remixes and collaborations
October 22, 2009 - posted in Releases, Tracks.
One of my all-time favourite bands and also some of the friendliest people I have ever met are these gentlemen from Venezuela, better known as Los Amigos Invisibles. The whole band, and especially their guitar player and DJ José Luis Pardo, have remixed and collaborated with a lot of different bands and artists over the years, and presented here are some audio samples of the (in my own humble opinion) best resulting tracks – it’s a long list, so please read on:
Rune mix 02 – “Raregrooves”
October 17, 2009 - posted in Mixes, Releases.
An uptempo mix inspired by the dance floor action at Oslo Soul Experience, trying to capture the intensity and spirit of their DJ’s excellent track selections and adding some additional flavour to that (the playlist and mix download link is available by reading the full post):
