Ultrafunk as a creative entity was started in 1988 by three people from Oslo, Norway: Anders Hamre (R.I.P. my friend & mentor), Lars Hamre and Rune Johnsrud. From 1988 until 1998, the group existed under many different names, and we worked on many different projects, among them ProTracker, Berimbau, Apollon, MovieStation and more.
In 1998, Ultrafunk was chosen as the new name for the group, coinciding with the first release of the Sonitus:fx audio plug-in suite. The plug-in suite lived on for 5 years, during which we released three generations (R1, R2 and R3), before it was sold to Cakewalk as the result of very tragic circumstances.
In the same period, Ultrafunk also developed the lightweight Popcorn e-mail client, and we created a number of other things besides Sonitus and Popcorn, most of which has since been lost or abandoned because of personal reasons.
After 16 years, Ultrafunk as a group was disbanded in 2004. After several years in limbo, one of the founding members decided to dedicate it to writing about music (a driving force behind all our past endeavours), and hopefully over time, it will again become a group of creative individuals.
Ultrafunk is the title of a song by supersexy Venezuelan funksters Los Amigos Invisibles, this is where we originally nicked our name (thanks!). Ultrafunk is also the name of a disco-funk band that released a few records in the early 70′s.
